THE LONDON HOTEL, TARTU, ESTONIA Originally built as a residence in the 1890’s, the building was badly damaged in WW II and stood empty and without floors before the decision was made to restore it as a hotel. In the 1930’s the building was known for its famous London Restaurant, which took up the entire basement. The original structure can be recognised in the plans for the hotel : the present spacious entrance hall on street level is connected both to the restaurant in the basement and to the first floor with the conference hall and four large guest rooms. The interiors were designed with a certain austerity for the guest rooms in strong contrast to the boldly coloured corridors, giving each floor its own identity.
